Emotional Intelligence is the ability to really understand and guide the emotions and feelings of yourself and those around you.

This, is by far one of the most important characteristics that a successful and empathic leader needs to have and portray.
An individual's IQ and intellectual capability can only get them so far. The importance of EQ is particularly crucial when moving into management positions because nobody likes a leader that is insensitive and arrogant. Persistently practice and preach the importance of EQ because this can make or break your company's attitude, and behaviour within.

This should also be assessed during performance appraisals and promotion potential because a person with high IQ and low EQ, can never lead you and your business in the right direction. Although a person that can help you develop teams, increase satisfaction and boost efficiency amongst employees, is always one to look out for.
