Effort is grossly underrated
You know what's really underrated? Effort. Pardon my stating the obvious here, but it can be really hard to just TRY. Just like sometimes it can be hard to care about something even when you should. When we care about things, that means that we generally feel obligated to TRY to bring about a positive outcome.
And yet, what do we get when we let ourselves off the hook? Nothing of value, nothing interesting. How can we inspire those around us to care if we don't put in the necessary effort? I'm not saying that we need to go around motivating and inspiring every single person in our lives -- but then again, who will if we don't?
At work, you will be rewarded if you are putting in the effort. If you're not, then either take the steps to make yourself more visible and more appreciated. If that doesn't work, it might be time to look for a change.
At home, imagine how much richer your relationships could be if you put 10% more effort in. 20% more effort. 50% more effort. What's the ceiling? Same as above, if all this extra effort goes unnoticed, you may have some self-examination to undertake. However, more than likely you will reap rewards.
Be a good partner. Be a good boss. Be a good friend.
After all, how many different things are you? How many can you be good at?
